Sleep and Airway Dentistry
As an alternative to CPAP therapy, we partner with EOS Dental Sleep to offer customized oral appliance therapy—a clinically proven solution for stabilizing the airway, improving sleep quality, reducing snoring, and promoting better long-term health and restorative sleep.
-
Less Invasive
Oral appliances are more comfortable and discreet method compared to traditional CPAP machines, gently repositioning the jaw to maintain an open airway without masks, hoses, or pressurized airflow during sleep.
-
Convenient
Oral appliances are a convenient alternative to CPAP for sleep apnea, delivering a smaller, simpler solution that fits comfortably, requires minimal maintenance, and travels easily for modern patients seeking comfort.
-
Effective
Custom oral appliance therapy can markedly improve obstructive sleep apnea by enhancing nighttime oxygen saturation, reducing daytime sleepiness, and achieving significantly higher long-term patient adherence compared with traditional CPAP therapy.
Our Sleep Apnea Treatment Process
Our team performs comprehensive evaluations for sleep apnea patients, carefully assessing airway health, symptoms, and contributing factors to determine an appropriate, evidence-based treatment plan to fit each individual’s health needs.
We Partner With EOS Dental Sleep
At Opus Dental Esthetics, we work with our partner practice, EOS Dental Sleep, to provide modern, comprehensive care for sleep-related breathing disorders, including sleep apnea and snoring.
While CPAP therapy can be effective for some, it can also be inconvenient and less effective for others. Our Opus and EOS teams offer oral appliance therapy as a more comfortable, less invasive solution. These custom-fit devices gently reposition the jaw to keep airways open during sleep, helping reduce symptoms, improve rest, and support better overall health.

Is Oral Appliance Therapy Right for You?
Individuals with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, or those intolerant of CPAP therapy, may benefit from oral appliance therapy. Ideal candidates often exhibit airway collapse during sleep and prefer a discreet, comfortable, dentist-supervised treatment that repositions the jaw to maintain airway patency.
1. Consultation and Review
During your initial consultation, our team will review and discuss your medical history to better understand your sleep apnea and/or snoring. The consultation includes a thorough sleep disorder examination, which may include X-rays to determine if you are a candidate for oral appliance therapy.

2. Oral Appliance Development
If it is determined that oral appliance therapy is the right option, dental impressions of your upper and lower teeth will be taken along with a bite registration. This will be used to fabricate your custom snoring mouthguard.

3. Treatment and Follow-Up Care
For a new patient, the initial evaluation and fitting of an oral appliance can take several weeks. This includes the exam, appliance selection, and fabrication. Ongoing care, including follow-ups, is essential to assess your progress, changes in condition, and the effectiveness of your appliance.

Sleep Apnea Symptoms
- Loud, persistent snoring often punctuated by gasping or choking sounds.
- Excessive daytime fatigue despite adequate time spent attempting restorative sleep.
- Frequent morning headaches, dry mouth, or sore throat upon waking.
- Impaired concentration, irritability, or memory lapses linked to fragmented sleep.
Sleep Apnea Risk Factors
- Obesity, particularly central adiposity, increases upper airway collapsibility during sleep.
- Craniofacial abnormalities such as retrognathia or enlarged tonsils promote obstruction.
- Advancing age reduces neuromuscular airway tone, heightening collapse risk nightly.
- Alcohol, sedatives, and smoking exacerbate airway instability and nocturnal hypoxia.
